Evidence, turned into things people actually use.

I'm a lecturer with a background in pharmaceutical quality control, and I build. Since November 2024 I've shipped 10+ evidence-based tools for the Malaysian public, students and lecturers, plus explainers, essays, a forthcoming book and talks. I use AI tools to design and ship them solo. The products themselves are deterministic and evidence-grounded, so every output can be traced and checked.

Three audiences, one method.

Find the best available evidence, then turn it into the format each reader can act on: a tool, an explainer, or a talk.

  1. 01 The Malaysian public Bilingual tools and carousels on metabolic health, nutrition, energy and cancer risk. CerminDiri, MakanLah, MyTDEE, KanserCheck and ten carousels.
  2. 02 Students Weekly practice, interactive chemistry labs, and plain-language research-method explainers. Kompas Semester and the Simply Explained series.
  3. 03 Lecturers An early view of who is keeping up and who has gone quiet, while there is still time to help. Kompas Semester's lecturer view.

Four case studies.

Each one shows a different part of the job: running a full product loop, working with a clinical stakeholder, learning from reach, and designing for behaviour change.

Kompas Semester

A course companion that makes steady study visible to students and their lecturer, alongside the official LMS.

  • ProblemMy students' results from 2016 to 2026 showed them clearing coursework without the mastery that holds up in the final exam, and large cohorts hid who was quietly falling behind.
  • BuiltWeekly practice quizzes, typed notes, guided study prompts and five interactive chemistry labs, scored in Postgres views with row-level security on every table, plus bilingual nudge emails.
  • IteratedReviewed the scoring rules in September: softened the late penalty, counted first attempts only, and rescaled badges to each course.

Diet journal · Clinical use

MakanLah

A meal journal for patients: photograph each meal, note your mood, and bring the record to your dietitian.

  • ProblemBetween visits, dietitians and nutritionists depend on what patients remember eating.
  • BuiltA photo-first journal. Patients log meals and mood, then save or print a report for their dietitian. No calorie counting and no advice, by design: interpretation stays with the clinician.
  • In useIn active clinical use with a dietitian stakeholder.
  • NextA central database so clinicians can monitor and guide patients between visits.

Metabolic & heart health · Risk calculator

CerminDiri

A metabolic and heart-risk self-check calibrated for Malaysians, using Asia-Pacific standards that apply across ASEAN rather than Western norms.

  • ProblemMost online risk calculators use Western cut-offs and cohorts. Asian populations carry higher cardiometabolic risk at a lower BMI and waist size, so those tools can under-call risk.
  • MethodThree established scores, each chosen for its evidence in Asian or Malaysian populations: FINDRISC with Asian waist thresholds for diabetes, INTERHEART (validated in Malaysian adults) for heart-attack risk, and Framingham (validated in Malaysia) for 10-year cardiovascular risk.
  • LocalisedWHO Asia-Pacific BMI and waist cut-offs, and a chart that places each user against Malaysian population data from NHMS 2019 and 2023, by sex and age.
  • LimitsEach score's origin and known biases are stated on the page, so users know where an estimate may over- or under-call.
  • ReachMy most-used tool. A viral Threads spike didn't become lasting search traffic; I traced it to an indexing problem, which is next to fix.

NeuroHabit

A habit tracker built on neuroscience: habits grouped by four neurochemical pathways (dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and endorphin) that feed one Hero Score.

  • ProblemMost habit apps reward streaks without explaining the behaviour behind them, or how habits depend on each other.
  • MethodA literature-review matrix for every habit: the mechanism linking it to the dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin or endorphin pathway, and the strength of the evidence behind it, graded strong or moderate. Extrapolated links, such as cold exposure and endorphins, are flagged as extrapolated rather than presented as fact.
  • EngineThe matrix sets the scoring engine. A foundational habit unlocks each category, secondary habits count double bonus habits, and a habit set locks for 28 days, following Lally (2010) and Keller (2021) rather than the popular 21-day claim.
  • BuiltAn offline-first PWA with a coach feed, multi-session cyclers and shareable score images, written in compassionate, non-judgemental language.
  • LearningDownloads came; keeping users is the open problem. The next step is learning from the returning core before building further.

Interactive chemistry labs

Four standalone labs that show what particles are doing inside a flask, and why a trend runs the way it does. Each one is layered, so the same page serves a first-year student and final-exam revision.

Writing beyond the lab.

The same curiosity about evidence, applied to memory, the sea and the history of medicine.

From Fictional Depths to Fragile Diversity

Essay in Lushness of the Sea Anthology, Malaysian Writers Society

Watching James Cameron's The Abyss on RTM2's Mega Movie as a nine-year-old in Besut, Terengganu sparked a lifelong curiosity about filmmaking and the ocean. Decades on, we have learned so much, still know so little, and are destroying the sea we are only beginning to understand.
